How to Build a Stand-Out Personal Brand

If you’re a coach, course creator, or service provider, your personal brand is your biggest asset.

It’s not just your vibe — it’s your reputation. Your energy. The feeling people get when they land on your page or hear your name in a conversation. It’s the reason someone says “I need to work with HER” before they even know what you sell.

And yet… most people are still treating this like an afterthought.

Influencers Actually Nailed This Part (Read That Again)

I know — hot take. But hear me out.

Influencers know how to build personal connection. They share their lives, their perspectives, their weird little quirks… and what happens? People feel like they know them. Like they trust them. Like they’d buy a $42 hair oil or random blender just because Becky said it was life-changing.

The best part? You don’t need to be lip-syncing on TikTok or posting every meal to do create this effect. #THANKGOD.

Instead of selling shapewear or skincare, you’re selling transformation. Access. Energy. Trust.

When people feel connected to you, they don’t just want your offer — they want into your world. That’s what a powerful brand does. It builds desire before you ever sell a thing.

What Is a Personal Brand, Really?

Let’s set the record straight.

Your brand is not your logo. Not your fonts. Not your perfectly neutral aesthetic.

That’s your branding — and while it’s part of the picture, it’s not the full story.

Your brand is who you are.
What you believe.
What you’re known for.
What you own.

Harvard Business School defines personal branding as:

“The intentional, strategic practice of defining and expressing your value.”

Cute. But I’d say it like this:

Branding is about selling people on YOU.

It’s about saying the damn thing. Sharing your truth. Showing up in a way that’s unmistakably yours — so your dream clients recognize you, remember you, and run to pay you.

Why My First 6 Years Felt Like a Performance

Let’s talk about what not to do.

I spent years building my business like a Frankenstein — piecing together everyone else’s strategies and hoping it would somehow add up to a brand that felt aligned.

  • Sally swore by her content calendar. I copied it.

  • Karen said I needed to “tweak my messaging.” I tweaked it 82 times.

  • Georgia told me to create more authority content. I forced it.

  • Ellen’s viral reel formula? Yep. Tried that too.

I was obsessed with learning. Constantly looking for the formula that would finally make me stand out. But the more I followed the rules, the more my unique edge disappeared.

Until one day… I just couldn’t do it anymore.

I was lying in bed, trying to write a post before heading to the lake with friends.
Three hours, 21 rewrites, and 318 tweaks later — I finally hit “post” and closed the laptop.

I spent the rest of the day spiraling. Checking my phone under a towel. Obsessing over what I needed to say tomorrow to get people to move.

And in that moment, I realized:

This isn’t the brand or business I wanted.

Sure, it was polished, professional… Everything I was putting out looked good on paper, but it wasn’t me.

When I Stopped “Trying to Get It Right,” Everything Changed

In that moment, I made a decision:

No more performing.

No more trying to “look the part” so people would take me seriously.
No more obsessing over saying the exact right thing so I could finally feel worthy of getting paid.
No more filtering my voice to make it more marketable, clickable, or on-brand.

I was exhausted. Not from the work, but from all the rules, the “shoulds”, the “have-to’s.”

And finally… I snapped.

I burned rulebook.
I dropped the shame around not being some 5 AM workout, ice bath, and greens girly.
I gave myself permission to create success my way.

After all, I didn’t want to be the “professional” coach who sounded like everyone else.

I wanted to be undeniably myself.
Even if that made people uncomfortable.
Even if that didn’t fit the typical mold.
Even if some people didn’t get it — because the right ones always would.

That’s when I stopped asking:

“What do I need to say to get people to buy?”

And started asking:

“What do I believe today?”
“What truth do I need to say out loud?”
“How can I lead — without the performance?”

And the wildest thing happened.

The more “me” I became… the more magnetic my brand became.

I went from sharing basic content that “followed the rules” to content that was one of a kind.

(Peep a little before and after below)

This new content didn’t just get likes — it got reactions.
People started reaching out, saying “I don’t even know what you sell, but I know I need to be in your world.”
Sales got easier. My confidence came back. I felt clear. Lit up. Free.

Because I wasn’t just showing up for my business and selling my offers.

I was showing up as the version of me that I’d been told to hide, filter, and tone down.

And that changed everything.

The Truth About Building a Stand-Out Brand

Here’s the part no one tells you.

Most of what’s being taught in the online space is just people showing you how to sound like them.

You’re not building your brand — you’re building theirs, on your feed.

You’re piecing together Sally’s strategy, Karen’s offers, Georgia’s content pillars and wondering why it feels heavy. Why it’s not converting. Why you’re still second-guessing every word.

It’s because the brand you’re building isn’t you.

And until your brand reflects who you actually are — your content will keep feeling off, your offers will keep needing to be “tweaked,” and your audience will stay lukewarm.

Want to Build a Brand That Actually Reflects You?

This is exactly what we do in my 1:1 Brand Intensive.

It’s one full day of private coaching where we go deep into the heart of your brand — who you are, what makes you different, and how to position yourself so people can’t help but pay attention.

We use my signature Main Character Method to uncover your:

  • Core brand identity (not just “messaging pillars” — the real you)

  • Unique POV that sets you apart from every other coach online

  • Vibe, voice, and energy that make your brand magnetic

  • Bold positioning that makes people say “I NEED to work with her”

Then we take all that gold and apply it to your:

  • Content strategy

  • Offer suite

  • Visual expression

  • Overall brand vibe

So you leave with clarity, direction, and content that actually feels like YOU — not a copy-paste of someone else’s formula.

Because you’re not just “building a business.”
You’re building a brand. One that gets seen. Felt. Remembered.
